About This Project

CNC Optimization is a free calculator platform developed by an individual software developer to help manufacturing professionals make informed decisions about equipment selection, cost analysis, and production planning. The platform provides 11 professional-grade calculators covering the complete lifecycle of CNC equipment investment and operation.

Development Background

This project was commissioned by OPMT Laser, a CNC laser equipment manufacturer. The calculators are now freely available to all manufacturers worldwide, regardless of equipment brand or supplier. Our goal is to provide transparent, standards-based tools that help manufacturers optimize their operations and make data-driven investment decisions.

ISO 230-2 (Geometric and Positioning Accuracy)

Our equipment selection and precision calculators use ISO 230-2 standards for positioning accuracy, repeatability, and geometric tolerance verification. This ensures compatibility scoring aligns with industry-accepted accuracy classifications (±3-5μm for high precision, ±8-10μm for standard precision).

GB/T 17421 (Maintenance Standards)

Maintenance interval calculations follow GB/T 17421 Chinese national standards for CNC machine tool maintenance, including preventive maintenance schedules, component lifecycle expectations, and failure mode predictions. These are widely adopted in Asian manufacturing and increasingly referenced globally.

MACRS & IRS Guidelines (Tax Depreciation)

Tax and depreciation calculators implement Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) as defined by US IRS Publication 946, with support for Section 179 expensing and regional variations. We also support straight-line and declining balance methods common in EU and other jurisdictions.

  • OEE: Availability × Performance × Quality (each 0-100%)
  • TCO: Initial Cost + Operating Costs - Salvage Value
  • NPV: -Initial Investment + Σ(Cash Flows / (1 + Discount Rate)^Year)
